The first time I went to Miami a nepo baby artist kidnapped me for 3 days. Needless to say I never made it to Art Basel.
It was December, after the first big pandie shut down. People were excited to be out. Some members of Motion Family were also in town. This is routine. I meet up with them when weโre in the same city, sometimes crash at their spot (thank you) and go wherever they go with camera in hand.
Dr. Dax took us to his friendโs birthday party.
We spilled out the car into a tiiiny parking lot. I locked eyes with Thurteen (Parliament Funkadelic) as soon as I walked into the restaurant.
Me + 13 = Wtf are you doing here?!
We were trying to meet up before I knew how chaotic the city gets during Basel. Traffic so jammed itโs faster to walk unless youโre going a far distance. Youโll be super late, or just ass out. Thereโs no cell service half the time. Everybody bounces from venue to venue like hot potatoes.
Dinner was amazing. Korean fusion.
People were discussing Avicii or some kind of ravey thing I had zero interest in attending.
Jona trying to entice me:
โDonโt go. Stay. Do you wanna meet Lenny Kravitz? Heโs coming later.โ
Heโs probably bullshitting but I stayed. Not to fawn over a famous man but to avoid a big party scene (audhd introvert). Plus I was promised weed.
Fast forward 72 fucking crazy hours later. Jona dropped me off. I had been glued to his side like a day manager on tour/photo-documentarian the entire time. It was uncomfortable when he went from loving me to hating me on the last day. Silent treatment. No eye contact. Hugged his friend who was equally as confused as me. Goodbye.

Upstairs in the new airbnb, I called Miami plug. He took me to the beach to film an episode of Feet Fucking Food. The only thing I was upset about was the fact Jona still had my favorite coat. Thatโs not coming back to meโฆโ

Baptized myself in the ocean wearing his artist rags because I too want to be filthy rich, paint all day and wreak havoc with my friends. Let his life seep into my skin.

I wore these religiously. Itโs nice to not make extra decisions every morning about outfits. I was laser focused on developing Han Coats - hand painted, reversible, unisex outerwear. A fusion of hanboks, boxing robes and the silhouette of my beloved stolen coat.
